DUNDAS, ON — In a game that had everything—speed, intensity, momentum swings, and a roaring crowd—the Dundas Blues are officially Bloomfield Division Champions.
Backed by over 1,600 passionate fans, the Blues battled back to defeat the Niagara RiverHawks 5–3 on Sunday afternoon, capping off a hard-fought series with a championship performance that will be remembered in Dundas for years to come.
Niagara came out with urgency, playing for their season, and it showed early, opening the scoring at 6:18 of the first period. But the Blues responded the way they have all season—with composure and pushback. On a power play at 10:34, Andrew Harris buried the equalizer to ignite the building.
The pace never let up. It was a fast, back-and-forth contest with both teams generating quality chances. Niagara regained the lead at 16:27 and carried that edge into the second period.
Midway through the second, Niagara extended their lead at 11:46, putting the Blues in a difficult spot. But Dundas refused to fold. With just over two minutes left in the frame, Nate Tarka scored at 17:55 to pull the Blues within one and shift momentum heading into the third.
What followed was a period that defined the Blues’ season.
Dundas came out flying in the third, relentless and determined. Their persistence paid off at 11:09 when Martin Vandenheuvel tied the game, sending the crowd into a frenzy. Just over a minute later, at 12:41, Nash Giles gave the Blues their first lead of the afternoon, completing the comeback and bringing the building to its feet.
With the clock winding down, tension filled the arena. Fans grew uneasy when Owen McCambridge was called for holding with less than five minutes remaining, giving Niagara a crucial power play opportunity. But the Blues’ penalty killers stood tall in a defining moment.
With Niagara pressing and the net empty, Macauley Wellstead sealed the victory with an empty-net goal at 19:26. Moments later, the final buzzer sounded—and the building erupted in celebration.
Players poured onto the ice as gloves and sticks flew, embracing in a moment years in the making.
Longtime General Manager Steve Aglor reflected on the championship moment:
“I’m so proud of our guys. Yesterday was a day I will never forget. Naturally I was disappointed with the loss in Niagara but the loss was worth it to come home and come from behind and win it in The Market in front of our home crowd. We have the best fans in the league.”
Team captain Tyson Wassink echoed that sentiment, emphasizing what it meant to deliver for the Dundas faithful:
“It’s the best feeling ever getting it done infront of the best fans in the league. They have been supporting us since day one and have been waiting a long time for this one and I can’t thank them enough for showing up for the team.”
The Blues now turn their attention to the South Conference Championship, where they will face the winner of the Tavistock Braves and the Woodstock Navy Vets. Game 1 is anticipated to begin Saturday, April 4th, with Dundas set to open the series on the road in either Tavistock or Woodstock.
From a tense start to a triumphant finish, the Dundas Blues delivered when it mattered most—bringing the Bloomfield Division title back to Dundas in unforgettable fashion.
