TAVISTOCK — Facing elimination Saturday night, the Dundas Blues left everything on the ice.
In Game 5 of their PJHL South Conference Championship series, the Blues delivered one of their most determined efforts of the postseason, pushing the Tavistock Braves to the limit before ultimately falling 3-2 in a fast-paced, back-and-forth contest that brought their season to a close.
From the opening puck drop, Dundas played with urgency, matching Tavistock stride for stride in a game filled with relentless pace, physicality, and scoring chances at both ends.
Tavistock responded later in the first period with a power-play goal to even the score, setting the tone for what would become a tightly contested battle.
In the second period, Tavistock took their first lead of the night before the Blues answered midway through the frame. A strong, hard-working rush led by Cooper Drennan and Stevie George created a prime scoring opportunity, with George finding a wide-open Owen McCambridge, who made no mistake in finishing the play to tie the game 2-2.
The momentum see-sawed throughout the night, with both teams trading chances in a high-tempo affair. However, Tavistock regained the lead later in the second period on another power-play marker, which would stand as the game-winner.
Despite the loss, Dundas netminder Keegan Jackson delivered yet another outstanding performance, turning aside 44 of 47 shots and keeping the Blues within striking distance until the final moments.
The third period saw a desperate push from Dundas, but they were unable to find the equalizer, as Tavistock held on to secure the win and the series.
While the result marked the end of the Blues’ playoff run, it does little to diminish what was a remarkable season for the club. Dundas captured the Bloomfield Division title for the first time since 1993 and proved themselves as one of the top teams in the PJHL.
Following the game, head coach Dane O’Neill reflected on both the team’s effort and the deeper meaning behind the season.
“I couldn’t be more proud of this group,” said O’Neill. “They made it a joy to come to the rink every single night. Over my 13 years coaching junior hockey, the support and passion from the Dundas community stands out as something truly special. The fans showed up, filled the Market, and created an atmosphere our players fed off.
“What makes this team even more meaningful to me is the people I care deeply about every player and every member of our staff—this group has had a lasting impact on my life. The relationships we’ve built, the sacrifices we’ve shared, and the way they’ve come together as a family is something I’ll carry with me forever.
“On a personal level, the community has made my family and I feel incredibly welcome. Dundas is a special place—it feels like home, and it’s somewhere that will remain a big part of our lives for a long time.”
President and General Manager Steve Aglor echoed those sentiments, highlighting both the emotional end to the season and the pride in what the team accomplished.
“It hurts to see some of them age out,” said Aglor. “This was probably the closest team we’ve ever had. We’ve got a great group here. The coaching staff put their hard work and their hearts into making these guys better every time they hit the ice.
“We accomplished our goal this year which was to win the Bloomfield Division. After having a taste of it I think we will have a higher goal next season.
“I’d really like to thank our sponsors and fans for helping this be a special year. Also our great group of volunteers. Without them we wouldn’t have a team.”
With a core that battled until the very end, a passionate fan base behind them, and a championship foundation now in place, the Dundas Blues close the book on a memorable season—one that may ultimately be remembered as the beginning of something even bigger.
